As an Electrician, you will install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in industrial, commercial, and domestic environments.
You might work in both indoor and outdoor settings on electrical equipment and systems such as switchboards, motors, cables, fuses, thermal relays, fault current protection switches, heating, lighting, air conditioning and metering equipment. You will also have the chance to work on crime and fire alarm systems and renewable energy technologies.
With our Installation Electrician and Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship you will be able to work on your own, without immediate supervision both efficiently and economically. You will contribute to the design of electrical systems and be able to set out jobs from drawings and specifications, and requisition the necessary installation materials.
A minimum of 20% of your contracted hours must be spent in off-the-job training. This is predominantly done one day per week at college but can also include training sessions.
Entry requirements:
- GCSE at grade 4 (C) or above, or equivalent in Maths and English
What will I achieve?
Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will achieve a Level 3 Installation Electrician and Maintenance Electrician qualification.
What will I learn?
- Installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of low voltage (less than 1000v) electrical and electronic devices and appliances
- Maintenance of electrical and electronic installations including automated production systems
- Supervision of the equipment, its maintenance, and necessary repairs

You must meet the requirements of an end-point assessment in order to be deemed competent in your job role.
How am I assessed?
Once you have completed all elements of your apprenticeship, you will enter the gateway and get ready to take your end-point assessment. The end-point assessment consists of AM2/AM2S, a national standard to ensure that you are competent in all aspects of an electrician’s work.
Where can I progress?
When you complete the Installation Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship programme, you will have satisfied the requirements for registration as EngTech (Engineering Technician) by the Engineering Council. This professional registration will enable you to work as an electrician in a variety of sectors and settings.
Apprenticeship pay:
You will be employed as a regular employee on a contract of employment for at least 30 hours per week and paid at least the National Minimum Wage for an Apprentice, currently £7.55 per hour. Employers can pay the National Minimum Wage for an Apprentice for the first year of the apprenticeship. After this first year, the salary rate will change to the National Minimum Wage for your age.
