City & Guilds 8202 Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Electrical Installation (450)

This course starts once per academic year, typically in September. Early application is advised due to high demand and limited places.

To enrol in this course, you must have one of the following:

City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation or an equivalent qualification.

GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above in Maths, English, and Science is highly desirable.

A strong interest in the electrical trade and a willingness to learn and work both independently and as part of a team.

By successfully completing this course, you will gain the City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Electrical Installation, which is widely recognised in the industry. You will develop advanced knowledge and technical competence in preparation for employment, an electrical apprenticeship, or progression into higher education such as a  HNC/D in Building Services Engineering.

This course supports your progression toward becoming a fully qualified electrician (subject to completion of an apprenticeship and NVQ).

You will study a wide range of advanced topics, including:

• Electrical design and installation practices
• Inspection, testing and commissioning of electrical systems
• Fault diagnosis and rectification
• Electrical science and principles
• Planning and Overseeing
• Understanding regulations and standards (e.g. BS7671 Wiring Regulations)

The course is delivered through a blend of:

• Classroom-based theory sessions, including group discussions, individual tasks, and research activities.
• Workshop-based practical lessons to develop your hands-on electrical installation skills in a safe and supportive environment.
• Mock assessments and practice exams to prepare you for the formal City & Guilds written exam and synoptic practical assessment.
• Learners are supported by experienced tutors with industry knowledge and are encouraged to seek work experience or an apprenticeship to complement their studies.

Assessment for the City & Guilds 8202 Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Electrical Installation (450). You will complete an externally marked synoptic assessment, which combines theory and practical skills to reflect real-world scenarios. In addition, a written  exam will test your understanding of electrical science, installation technology, planning and overseeing, wiring regulations, fault diagnosis, and inspection and testing.

For adults in England, there's potential for free Level 3 electrical courses through the free courses for jobs initiative, particularly if they are unemployed or earn below a certain income threshold. Additionally, adults aged 19+ who don't already have a Level 3 qualification may also be eligible for free training.
