Do you see yourself fitting into a construction site as a Site Carpenter or in a workshop as an Architectural Joiner? Perhaps you see a future being a sole trader and running your own business? If so, our Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship is perfect for you!

If you want to specialise in a particular area of construction, for example, heritage restoration, there's even an option for that!

Choose from a Carpentry or Joinery pathway and earn whilst you learn as you develop the skills you need to work in the trade.

A minimum of 20% of your contracted hours must be spent in off-the-job training. This is predominantly done one day per week at college but can also include training sessions.

Entry requirements:

GCSE at grade 3 (D) or above, or equivalent in maths and English

What will I achieve?

Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will achieve a Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery qualification.

What will I learn?

This is a core and options apprenticeship with two pathways

Pathway 1: A Site Carpenter will normally work on a construction site, or in domestic and commercial premises, preparing and fixing building components, from the initial erection of a new building through to the installation of all necessary fixtures and fittings, as well as a range of repair and maintenance activities.
Pathway 2: An Architectural Joiner will normally be employed in a workshop producing timber-based building components and other architectural products, such as doors, windows, units, and staircases, which are then transported to construction sites to be installed by site carpenters.

You must meet the requirements of an end-point assessment in order to be deemed competent in your job role.

How am I assessed?

Once you have completed all elements of your apprenticeship, you will enter the gateway and get ready to take your end-point assessment. The end-point assessment consists of a Knowledge Assessment (short written test), a Practical Skills Assessment (skills test) and an interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.

Where can I progress?

On completion of this standard, you may progress onto the Advanced Apprenticeship Standard in Carpentry and Joinery or secure employment as a Site Carpenter or Architectural Joiner.

The achievement of this standard will meet the requirements of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) ‘Skilled Worker’ standard which is widely accepted in the sector as a ‘licence to operate’ in a skilled construction trade.

Apprenticeship pay:

You will be employed as a regular employee on a contract of employment for at least 30 hours per week and paid at least the National Minimum Wage for an Apprentice, currently £5.28 per hour. Employers can pay the National Minimum Wage for an Apprentice for the first year of the apprenticeship. After this first year, the salary rate will change to the National Minimum Wage for your age.

Green Technology Centre Manager

As a dedicated Site Manager, I oversee the centre's daily operations and support learners in their journey toward achieving their qualifications. My responsibilities include managing four departments: Motor Vehicle, Vehicle Respraying, Bricklaying, and Property Maintenance Operations, offering qualifications ranging from Level 1 to Level 3, as well as apprenticeship programs in these areas. With a background as a fully qualified motor mechanic and vehicle respraying tutor for eight years, I bring hands-on expertise to my role in management.
