Are you passionate about sport? Do you have an interest in working with children and young people in a sport or education setting? We have worked closely with organisations within our locality such as such as Kidderminster Harriers FC to develop this Physical Education and Sports Coaching degree to make sure its what employers are looking for.
You will study topics such as the national curriculum, coaching and teaching styles, child development and SEN and gain event management experience as you will plan and deliver a sporting event. You will develop valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership and organisation through planning coaching sessions.
This degree is an approved Higher Technical Qualification quality marked by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.
Entry requirements:
- 64 UCAS points (from related Sport and Exercise and/or Health and Social Care subjects).
- Once your application has been reviewed, you may be invited to attend an interview at Kidderminster College.
- If you are a current Kidderminster College student and successfully meet the published Level 3 entry criteria in an appropriate subject(s), you will be guaranteed a place on this course.
- Applicants are normally expected to have achieved a grade 4/C or higher in GCSE English and Maths, or the Level 2 equivalent (i.e. Functional Skills or Adult Literacy/Numeracy)
- You will be expected to have DBS clearance before starting this degree.

FdSc Physical Education and Sports Coaching (awarded by NCG)
This is a Foundation Degree qualification at level 5. There are top up options available to students to gain a full degree at level 6 with one further year of study.

Work experience opportunities:
This degree was specifically designed to meet an industry demand for qualified sports coaches and education professionals. The degree regularly hosts guest speakers from industry including strength and conditioning coaches, foundation directors and teachers. You will be supported to secure a work placement of 30 hours each year of the course in schools, foundations, local authorities and sports clubs.
Where can I progress?
After you have completed your degree you may choose to progress onto a relevant Top-Up degree and then an appropriate Masters degree or PGCE, if you wish to go into teaching. You may decide to look for employment coaching children and young people in foundations or sports teams, or work as a teaching assistant in an education setting.

What can I do with a qualification in Physical Education and Sports Coaching?
Daily tasks:
- Ensures custody of all cash receipts and organises regular stock checks.
- Recruits, supervises and trains staff.
- Determines financial, staffing, material and other short- and long-term needs.
- Advises on the facilities available and promotes publicity in relation to shows, games, races, new theme parks, etc..
- Keeps abreast of new trends and developments in recreational activities and arranges exhibitions, theatrical productions, concerts, demonstrations etc..
- Ensures that facilities are kept clean and in good condition and that appropriate health and safety requirements are adhered to.
- Organises timetable of activities/schedule of programmes.

- Maintains clothing and other specialised sporting equipment.
- Builds stamina, physical strength and agility through running, fitness exercises and weight training.

- Participates in exhibitions, pre-qualifying events, tournaments and competitions.

- Inspects and maintains specialised clothing and equipment.
- Understands health and safety aspects of various activities and ensures any statutory requirements are met.

- Deals with administrative aspects such as arranging matches, contests or appearances for athlete or team, and organising required transport and accommodation.
