National Apprenticeship Week
T Level Thursday at KORI Construction
Celebrating #TLevelThursday in National Apprenticeship Week, we’re spotlighting local employers collaborating with Kidderminster College, showcasing their commitment to hiring T Level students and nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals.
From our T Level Student
William Harding-Taylor – T level Building Services Engineering for Construction
I enjoy the different experiences you get on an industry placement, the different people you meet, and the hands-on experience you get. Compared to just being in a classroom, you get real-life experience. There are many benefits, such as starting to build connections within the construction industry, and you can add to your CV. In the future, I hope to be an electrician or a site manager, and the industry placement will help me get there.
From the Employer
Elaine Kendall – Head of Sustainability and Communications
Kori Construction are passionate about maximising the impact our operations have on local communities and providing industry placements for local students enables our teams to help enrich the lives of local people and give something back.
Supporting the next generation of construction workers by providing work placements helps to narrow the skills gap and prepare students for the world of work by enhancing their skill sets and development of soft skills. This is vitally important to not only help address the construction industry’s skills shortage, but also the future economy, and we’re delighted to work in partnership with leading education providers, such as Kidderminster College, to support their learners.
Ryan Finch – Site Manager
Work placements are crucial more than ever as our industry is suffering from a labour and skills shortage, which is getting worse year on year. Being able to help facilitate work placements with Kidderminster College helps give a chance for the industry to get exposure in the various roles and pathways available and to aid students to achieve a successful career in the sector. It helps give real-world experience outside the classroom and is vital in CPD development from the onset.
For me directly, it was only four years ago when I started in the construction industry, thanks to the Directors of KORI taking a chance on me and developing me into the site manager I am today. They have given me a wealth of training and expertise with a strong career full of opportunity and progression, so I feel like being able to give back the chances my Directors gave to me to the likes of the Kidderminster students is priceless.
In a struggling sector, we need to be giving chances and opportunities where we can, not just because of an industry in decline but because it’s the right thing to do to get the next generation into strong and stable careers. Too little chances are given to those that need them; by facilitating the work experience programmes at Stourbridge, Kori can help be a partner in the change our industry needs.
