Performing Arts (Acting, Musical Theatre and Technical Theatre) – Level 2

Want a career in the Performing Arts? Then this qualification is for you! The course specialises in Acting, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Production.

Acting - Offering you training in a professional capacity by industry specialists. Within classes and workshops, you will gain a strong technical grounding in acting and performance, alongside professional and personal development. Past productions have included Caryl Churchill's 'A Mouthful of Birds', Alice Sebold's 'The Lovely Bones', Jim Cartwright's 'ROAD', and a stage adaptation of John Hughes' 80's cult classic 'The Breakfast Club'.

Musical Theatre - Your skill set will be showcased in a number of productions throughout the course. Large-scale productions by Ignite Musical Theatre students have included Cabaret, Crazy for You, Les Misérables, Anything Goes, Little Shop of Horrors, Spring Awakening, We Will Rock You, Sweet Charity, In The Heights, The Uncastables (Original Musical) and Musical: The Musical (Original Musical).

Technical Theatre - This course will allow you to work with industry experts, develop skills in lighting and sound operation, set design and construction, stage management and so much more. Not only this but you will have continuous opportunities to put these skills to practice during Dance, Musical Theatre, Acting, and Music performances. You will learn from our technical team and also from our industry experts. This course not only provides you with on-the-job training but with theoretical approaches to strengthen your knowledge and skills.

    Performance work:

    • Set deisgn and production
    • Props mastery
    • Stage management
    • Costume design and sourcing
    • Lighiting and sound design
  • What are the entry requirements?
    • 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including Maths and English
    • Completion of a Level 1 course
  • What qualifications will be gained?

    Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be both internally and externally assessed throughout this course. Most assessments are delivered through your practical explorations.

    Work experience opportunities:

    Ignite Acting, Musical Theatre and Technical Theatre make frequent visits to watch live theatre, both locally and on the West End, as well as taking part in external workshops, community performances and charity events. In addition to this, learners are guided and encouraged to gain work experience within specialist fields, including work as paid extras!

    English and Maths:

    Your course will help you build on your English and Maths skills in a practical setting. All Ignite students will participate in activities that require these skills throughout their two years training; through submitting written documentation to support practical assessments and working in an industry-grade theatre and production arts workshop.

     

    We have a set uniform and kit list required for your daily activities of study and assessments. Upon success of obtaining a place on the course, you will receive all the relevant information needed.

    We provide a bursary programme which offers help and support to students from low-income families.
