More about the course

This Level 3 course provides student-athletes with the fantastic opportunity to study alongside playing football. You will receive high-quality coaching from UEFA-qualified football coaches at the main campus, and at our dedicated Centre of Sporting Excellence facilities.

During your time with us, you will work towards your academic qualification alongside playing in national competitions such as the National Alliance, FA Youth Cup, English Colleges, and Floodlit Leagues. There is also an opportunity to gain sporting qualifications such as the FA level 1 and 2 awards and the Sports Leaders award.

Entry requirements:

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Maths

You will also need to take part in football trials as part of your application process.

What will I achieve?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a BTEC National Diploma in Sport or BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport.

There will also be an external assessment in the form of synoptic assessments and examinations which will be sent off to the exam board for marking.

Work experience opportunities:

You will get the opportunity to coach with the Kidderminster Harriers FC Juniors and within the community. There will also be several trips to St George’s Park.

English and Maths:

English will be included in learning new terminology and to develop your CV, personal statements and job applications.

Maths will be included in understanding research methods for quantifying data analysis, and fitness testing using normative data and statistic analysis.

Tutorial

Tutorial is a program of essential topics affecting you as a potential employee and member of a community. You will cover topics to improve employability skills, mental fitness (both for you and those around you) and much more. It is an essential part of your personal development.

As part of you weekly timetable, you will be expected to take part in Tutorial. This consists of a 1-1 meeting (at least 3 a year) and Personal Development activities that develop you both personally and professionally. Part of the focus is to raise digital Standards and take part in Employer Engagement Activities such as guest speakers, logging Work Experience and in person and online networking.

We work with Student Experience, Careers and your Curriculum team to ensure your Tutorial elements link to your industry area and to create opportunities to develop key skills for profile raising as well as enabling you to create competitive applications and CVs.

Tutorial is also an opportunity to check in with you as part of a group and individually. You can discuss any issues you might be having that affect your learning and essentially identify strategies and support available to you.

Where can I progress?

Upon completion of this course, you can go on to study our Football Business Management and Coaching Foundation Degree. This degree is validated and awarded by the University of Worcester.

Alternatively, you can go onto another university degree or into employment.
