T-Levels have now launched at Kidderminster College, giving you a real alternative to A Levels, apprenticeships and other 16 to 19 courses.

What are T-Levels?

T-Levels are an alternative to A Levels, apprenticeships and other 16 - 18 courses. Equivalent to 3 A Levels, a T-Level focuses on vocational skills and can help you progress into skilled employment, higher study or apprenticeships.

T-Levels represent a vocational qualification where you gain comprehensive skills for your future. This two-year programme, developed in collaboration with employers, seamlessly integrates classroom learning with valuable work experience.

Throughout your T-Level journey, 80% of your time will be dedicated to classroom learning, while the remaining 20% will be spent on a work placement. This balanced approach ensures the development of a broad skill set and practical experience employers seek. A T-Level will prepare you for a smooth transition, whether your aspirations involve entering your chosen career, pursuing an apprenticeship, or embarking on a degree.

What T-Levels can I study at Kidderminster College?

Applications are now open to study T-Levels from September 2024. You can choose from a range of pathways in the following subject areas:

Do I have to study a T-Level?

No, we still offer other vocational options for 16 - 18-year-olds that will allow you to progress to higher study, employment, and apprenticeships of all levels. However, at Kidderminster College, we do not offer academic study such as A-Levels, so if you want to study an academic subject, we cannot provide this.

Where can I progress after completing a T-Level?

T-Levels are equivalent to three A-Levels, so you can progress wherever you wish! You can progress to a degree or other higher study or apprenticeship or go straight into skilled employment.

How are T-Levels different to A-Levels?

T-Levels are designed to get you the practical skills you need, while A-Levels focus more on theory.

One T-Level is equivalent to three A-Levels, and you'll still be awarded UCAS points. This is because, on a T-Level, you study one subject with different pathways in order to gain in-depth knowledge and skills in your chosen area.

Each T-Level is a two-year programme with an industry placement lasting at least 45 days. You'll spend 80% of your time in the classroom learning the skills employers need and the other 20% in industry, putting these skills into action and gaining real experience.

How are T-Levels different to Apprenticeships?

T-Levels are designed to bring classroom learning and work experience closer together, and you'll spend 80% of your time in the classroom learning the skills, with the other 20% spent in the workplace putting them into practice.

This differs from an apprenticeship, which focuses more on workplace training. On an apprenticeship, you spend 80% of your time in a real, full-time job, with 20% of the time spent in a classroom being supported.

What qualifications do I need to study a T-Level?

You will ordinarily require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at 5 or above, including English, maths and science.

You may also be required to participate in an assessment to ensure suitability ahead of enrolment.
