Performing Arts

At KC, we are passionate about the performing arts, so much so that we have established 'Ignite', our very own dance, musical theatre, and acting company. We have our own dedicated theatre and dance studios, designed to provide students with authentic experiences whilst studying here.

We offer a range of full-time courses, along with a Higher Education programme, enabling students to further develop their skills and gain additional experience. Many of our former students have gone on to study higher education to refine their talents, and some have even taken on prominent roles like playing Harry Potter in the West End performance of 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,' and appearing in 'Kinky Boots'.

Amy Coughlan

Dance Lecturer

Trained at the Central School of Ballet, I performed with Ballet Theatre UK and Vienna Festival Ballet in productions like Nutcracker, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Swan Lake. After earning my PGCE in Education at Exeter University in 2016, I joined Birmingham Ormiston Academy (BOA) and taught BTEC Level 2, 3, and GCSE qualifications. In 2023, I completed my MA in Dance (Education) at Middlesex University. Alongside my teaching role at BOA, I also serve as a Dance Tutor for MOVEIT. Since January 2024, I've been with Ignite Dance Centre, contributing to Level 2, 3, HNC, and HND qualifications.

Grace Willetts

Tutor - Dance

Grace trained at SOTE Birmingham and at Addict Dance Academy in Leicester. At the age of 10, Grace successfully auditioned for English Youth Ballet’s production of Swan Lake at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. She later performed at The New Alexandra Theatre in several Charity Galas and Musicals throughout her early teenage years. At the age of 16, Grace successfully auditioned to dance professionally as part of the ensemble for the UK Arena Tour of Elf the musical. Grace then gained places at a range of different vocational schools to train full time including Bird college, The Brighton Academy and Stella Mann. She decided to train at Addict Dance Academy. Grace has qualifications in IDTA Ballet, IDTA Theatre Craft, IDTA Modern Jazz, IDTA Ballet Associate, IDTA Musical Theatre, IDTA Freestyle Associate, LCM Popular Music – Vocal & BA Hons in Dance. Grace works across the Levels 2, 3, 4 & 5 Dance and Theatre courses.

Laura-Beth Connelly

Tutor - Dance

Laura-Beth is a professional dancer who specialises in contemporary dance and is also trained in jazz, lyrical, tap & Ballet. She holds a BA Hons in Dance Performance and a PGCE-PCET specialising in dance. Laura-Beth trained overseas at the University of Malta, where she expanded her knowledge of contemporary techniques; release, flying low, contact improvisation, partnering and Ballet. During her studies, LB was selected to perform works across London from established and upcoming choreographers such as Sian Hopkins, Riccardo Buscarini, Joe Garbett and Jason Mabana. LB has danced in Alan Carr’s ‘I don’t like Mondays ‘ and performed with TDS productions on 'The One Show'. Laura-Beth also works with Translucent Dance Company and toured their performance of ‘Deep Water’. LB is passionate and enthusiastic about learning, developing and teaching and is excited to support the next generation of dancers to grow and develop!
