Going from watching in the stands to stepping onto the pitch is something many young footballers dream of. For Bruce Minaker, it’s now a reality.

Bruce, who studied as part of the Kidderminster Harriers Academy programme at Kidderminster College, recently made his first-team debut - a proud moment that reflects years of commitment, development and balance between sport and education.

Through the Harriers Academy programme, students combine their academic studies with a structured football development pathway, training in a professional environment while continuing their education.

Speaking in a recent interview with Scott Jones from Kidderminster College, Bruce reflected on his journey from supporter to player and what that progression has meant to him.

“It’s something you always think about when you’re younger,” Bruce explains in the interview, reflecting on making the step up. “To actually do it is a really proud moment.”

Throughout the conversation, Bruce discusses the realities of balancing football and studies - managing training schedules alongside coursework - and the discipline required to stay focused in both areas.

He also shares what it has been like learning from senior professionals and being around the first-team environment, describing how that exposure has helped shape his mindset and development.

The Harriers Academy programme at Kidderminster College is designed to give aspiring footballers the opportunity to develop within a structured college setting, providing both educational qualifications and access to high-level coaching and competitive fixtures.
