Students at Kidderminster College have made a strong start to the new academic year, with a range of activities helping them connect their studies with industry and prepare for their future careers.
Since the start of September, groups of students have been taking their learning beyond the classroom, meeting people working in industry, experiencing different environments and taking part in activities linked to their chosen career paths.
Travel and Tourism students have been gaining an insight into the industry through a visit to Co-op Travel. Students heard about how travel companies promote holidays and attract customers, from eye-catching digital screens to traditional brochures. They have also been putting their cabin crew skills into practice through safety demonstrations.
Level 3 Beauty students have also been out of the classroom, visiting University College Birmingham to attend an aesthetics masterclass. This provided another opportunity to gain experience directly related to their area of study.
Students are also working with organisations in the local community. They are helping to bring a Community Fashion Show to life alongside residents from Foley Grange Care Home, raising funds for KEMP Hospice. The event will take place at Kidderminster College on 23 October, with residents taking to the catwalk, supported by students who have helped bring the event together.
These activities reflect the College’s focus on connecting students’ learning with opportunities beyond the classroom, helping them understand how the knowledge and skills they develop through their courses can support their future progression.
Through engaging with employers, industry and external organisations, students can gain greater insight into different career pathways and build their confidence and experience as they prepare for their next steps.
