UK Visas and Immigration advice for Ukrainian Nationals

We are committed to supporting anyone affected by this crisis and welcome those who have fled Ukraine to the UK. Please read the below information carefully for the most up to date information on UK Visas, Immigration and Tuition Fee Funding for Ukraine Nationals in the UK.

 

Immigration routes

There are three immigration routes for Ukrainian nationals wishing to come to, or to remain in the UK. These routes may allow you to be funded to study a course at Kidderminster College:

  1. The “Ukraine Family Scheme”(launched on 4 March 2022), allows Ukrainian nationals and their family members to come to the UK or extend their stay in the UK if they have family members who already have leave to remain in the UK.
  2. The “Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme”(launched on 18 March 2022), allows Ukrainian nationals and their family members to come to the UK if they have an approved sponsor under the scheme.
  3. The “Ukraine Extension Scheme”(launched on 3 May 2022), allows Ukrainian nationals and their family members who already have leave to remain in the UK to extend their leave in the UK because they cannot return to Ukraine.

 

Eligible students with leave granted under one of the Ukraine Schemes will be able to apply for:

 

Tuition Fee Funding for Ukrainian Nationals in the UK 2022/23

 

16 – 18 (Further Education FE)

Fundable as a ‘home’ students if in UK. There is no requirement for residency.

19+ (Adult)

Adult Education Budget updated 23 March 2022:

“All Ukrainian adults and their family members supported through the Ukraine Family Scheme and Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme are immediately eligible for FE 19+ funding and are exempt from the 3-year residency requirement as per the current AEB funding rules.”

Persons granted leave under the Ukraine Schemes

 

This category is for any academic year that starts on/after 1 August 2022. This means you can use the category for all the academic years that start on/after 1 August 2022, even if you paid ‘overseas’ fees for an earlier year of the same course.

In order to qualify for ‘home’ fees under this category, you must meet all of the following criteria:

 

(a) on the first day of the academic year you are paying fees for, you must be a person with any one of these five types of leave:

 

  1. leave to remain granted under the immigration rules for the Ukraine Extension Scheme

 

  1. leave to enter or leave to remain granted under the immigration rules for the Ukraine Family Scheme

 

  1. leave to enter or leave to remain granted under the Ukraine Family Scheme, but outside the immigration rules. If you have this third type of leave, these two bullet points must also both be true:
    • you were residing in Ukraine immediately before 1 January 2022; and
    • you left Ukraine in connection with the Russian invasion

 

  1. leave to enter or leave to remain granted under the immigration rules for the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme

 

  1. leave to enter or leave to remain granted under the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme, but outside the immigration rules. If you have this fifth type of leave, these two bullet points must also both be true:

 

 

And

 

(b) you must have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands since you were granted such leave; and

(c) you must be ordinarily resident in the UK on the first day of the first academic year of the course.
