Alternative Pursuits

An exhilarating day of adventure and exploration; Second Year Outdoor Activities learners took the Brecon Beacons by storm – jumping into the action with land-cart building & racing, gorge climbing, cave navigation and a high ropes course.

This diverse range of activities challenged students to display their practical abilities and to be versatile in changing environments. Equally, the group honed in on their communication skills and showcased their ability to work together as a team. This trip was driven by ‘Alternative Pursuits’ – a unit that develops learner knowledge of the less traditional activities within the outdoor industry.

Progression and Personal Development

The group’s success at Brecon is a reflection of their development as individuals and collectively as a team. Morale was higher than ever, with students reacting to the challenges positively and pooling together their individual strengths to achieve a common goal (and having fun at the same time!)

Throughout this trip, learners realised their capabilities and have unlocked new potentials within themselves – conquering their fears and successfully overcoming a range of physical and mental obstacles. The skills and experience gained from trips like this are invaluable and this academic year approaches its close with a group of  young outdoor activities professionals ready for the next step in their career.

Outdoor Activities at Kidderminster College

Following successful completion of this 2-year programme you will receive a Level 3 Extended BTEC Diploma – qualifying you to progress to University within your chosen specialism. This is also an industry-recognised qualification, opening up employment opportunities for individuals that want to progress straight into the Sports & Outdoor industry.
