Students on the Level 3 Childcare course held a summer fayre this week to raise money for the Midlands Air Ambulance service, who helped their friend and fellow student, Sophie Price, after she was involved in a serious car accident in March. Without the assistance of the air ambulance service, Sophie would not be alive today.
The event was a huge success, with stalls, games, prizes, an interactive quiz and live music performances from our music students and support from staff and students from other college departments. Many local businesses supported the cause with some amazing raffle prize donations. The event raised an incredible £1912, which will be match funded by Farm Foods, who Sophie worked for part time.
Sophie was able to attend the event and met with Peter Edwards, the paramedic that saved her life. She had a great time and loved seeing all her friends again and she thanked Claire Foster, Sally Rowen and the childcare students from the college for arranging the event.
Sophie’s Mum, Andrea Price said, “I would like to say on behalf of myself, Sophie, Paul Price, Lee Mildenhall and all of Sophie’s friends and family, we had an amazing day today at the Kidderminster College fundraising event on behalf of Sophie. It was lovely to meet the fundraisers and one of the air crew paramedics Peter Edwards.”
Lecturer Sally Rowen said, “Myself and my childcare students wish to thank everyone for their support for Sophie’s Summer Fayre. I never dreamed that it would be so well supported. It was wonderful that Sophie was able to come – this seemed impossible when we first started arranging the fayre, she has made incredible progress and we are proud to have facilitated this event on her behalf.”
The Midlands Air Ambulance charity is responsible for funding and operating three air ambulances serving the communities of six Midland’s counties. To continue this vital service, the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity need to raise in excess of £9 million each year and the charity is fortunate to count on the public for support.
A 60s, 70s and 80s disco night has also been arranged which will take place on Saturday 23rd June at the Aggborough suite at Kidderminster Harriers. There are still tickets available, if you wish to buy a ticket, please contact Claire Foster at Kidderminster College.
