Land Based Studies learners have launched a new enterprise company with the aim of selling items and providing basic gardening services to the college community. The learners have created a logo as well as voting on a company name. The decision made was to go with the name ‘KC All Purpose Gardening’.
Chris Millington, Foundation tutor says: “This project will run alongside unit work the learners are currently doing with myself, Sara Hollyoak and Sharon Haynes. The real beauty of this project is that we will be showcasing learner’s talents through a wide range of mediums. This will provide variety and enrichment for everyone involved. It will also promote such skills as; Responsibility, respect, team work and professionalism”.
Land Based Learners are trialing coffee granule compost as part of their practical work, which is to create a bright fragrant area outside the Point at the College. The learners visited COFFEE#1 and asked if they could have any of the left over granules for their project, Coffee#1 staff kindly agreed to this. The idea behind this task was to create a connection between ourselves and a local establishment. The learners discussed the benefits of making connections with local business and looked at how these relationships can help move our project forward. It was a beneficial exercise for all involved.
We’ll be keeping an eye on the Land Based Learners progress over the coming months, so stay tuned for more updates!
