Jet2 Take Off With #FlyKC 29/11/2019


Travel and Tourism students were visited this week by Amanda Kay, Brand Champion at Jet 2 Holidays. Amanda’s talk was about inspiring and creating awareness of future job opportunities within the industry and how taking Travel & Tourism at Kidderminster College has already put our students ahead of the game!


“ Limited, often known simply as Jet2, is a British low-cost leisure airline offering scheduled and charter flights from the United Kingdom. As of 2018, it is the third-largest scheduled airline in the UK. Its main base and headquarters is at Leeds Bradford International Airport, with further bases at Manchester, Belfast International, Edinburgh, Newcastle, East Midlands, Glasgow, Alicante, Birmingham, Palma and London Stansted.”

Brand Ambassador, Amanda was able to give our students an exclusive insight to what it is like to both work and represent one of the UK’s largest holiday companies, giving insider advice and tips to help our Travel & Tourism learners get the edge when it comes to applying for a job.


Jobs in the industry of travel and tourism are all about helping people enjoy themselves while they’re exploring the world around them. You encounter the people who work in the travel and tourism sector whenever you get on a train, book a journey to some far-off destination or explore a new hotel. Usually, people who like working with others and don’t mind working beyond a nine-to-five schedule are well suited to a career in travel and tourism.

Depending on how you choose to get involved with the travel and tourism sector, you might find that your job takes you around the world. For instance, flight attendants and holiday representatives frequently fly to different destinations as part of their career roles. The main thing to remember is that jobs in tourism and travel focus on providing attentive, efficient and friendly customer service. This means that you’re going to need excellent communication skills, a friendly nature and a lot of patience for this career.

Delivering excellent Customer Service in the skies isn’t easy. You’ll be thinking on your feet and responding to customers’ needs for the duration of every flight. There’s always something to do, from very important safety checks to serving refreshments, to meeting in-flight sales targets. Then doing it all again on the return journey!”

  • to be able to carry out basic tasks on a computer or hand-held device

  • to be thorough and pay attention to detail
  • the ability to accept criticism and work well under pressure
  • persistence and determination
  • to enjoy working with other people
  • to be flexible and open to change
  • administration skills
