KC AT HOME – Weeks 4 & 5

We’ve had to do a thing this week; week 4 of lockdown was about three days, and it was during half term, so we thought we’d throw everything together in a bumper post today! We don’t think we’re the only ones struggling at the moment,do you find you have three really good days and one when your mental health is a bit…bleurgh? Because we are! But, we’re dead excited as we’ve teamed up with mental health app, FIKA! Keep reading to find out all the details!

THANK YOU NHS & KEY WORKERS

We made a small thank you tribute to all the incredible NHS and key workers who are keeping our country running, our baskets full and our hospitals staffed.

We’d also like to give a huge shout out to our past Health & Social Care/Childcare students:

  • Danielle Mills
  • Lauren Thorpe
  • Zoe Bavington
  • Jamie Brocket

Who are either working on the frontline, or in our hospitals, providing care and support to those of us at our most vulnerable!

WE’VE JOINED FORCES!

Keeping on top of your mental health can be hard at the best of times, yet alone during lockdown. At #TeamKC, our priority is you, so we’re excited to announce that we’ve joined forces with @thefikaapp to provide all our staff and students with remote mental fitness support 💪 Download the app and register with your KC email address today – let’s get mentally fit together. >>>> http://onelink.to/x7m24j

HAIR & BEAUTY

Our Hair & Beauty students are continuing to hone their skills at home, it’s been amazing to see how inventive and adaptable our students have been over lockdown; utilising what they have at home to keep learning and working on their portfolios!

LOCKDOWN LESSONS

Our Music Tutor, Andy Edwards, has been keeping us busy with drum lessons.  FUN FACT: Andy Edwards came to prominence as Robert Plant’s drummer between 1997 and 2001. During this time he worked exclusively for Robert, performing all over the world on over 100 gigs. These included performances headlining many of the major music festivals across Europe. So when you join #TeamKC, you really are taught by the best! Even if you’re not a drummer, Andy’s industry insights are next to none! So if you have a few spare minutes (which lets face it, most of us do at the moment) check out his Lockdown Lessons!

OUR PATRON, ROBERT PLANT, GAVE A GENEROUS DONATION TO HELP FRONTLINERS

Our Patron, Robert Plant, has made an amazing donation to help frontline medical supplies by supporting M.G Sportwear (the company where we get all our uniforms and kits from!) Take a look at the article HERE

THE GROW ROOM

Our dedicated Estates Team have been checking on both our KC Building and keeping our Grow Room watered and alive!

As always, our Estates Team have been working solidly behind the scenes to make sure our Main Campus and VSC are running smoothly, that there’s been no leaks or pigeons (we all know the pigeons like to pay a visit occasionally on the third floor!)

KC BLOG

Our KC BLOG is up and running! In case you missed it, you can check out our current posts below! They range from tips to recommendations and advice.

We’re featuring several guest writers in the upcoming weeks; so make sure you check back in on the regular!

If you’d like to get involved (and we really hope you do) contact MARKETING on marketing@kidderminster.ac.uk with your idea/article and we’ll get in touch!

LRC

Our LRC Team have been busy this week! We’ve had another great book review from them and, as part of #ReadingHour for #WorldBookNight, they showed us their favourite novels!

You can also check out their #WellBeingWednesday — Beginners Origami!

LEARNER ENGAGEMENT SURVEY

We’ve come up with a short survey which we need you to fill in. We know times are pretty difficult at the moment, so we want to hear about how you’re learning and focusing on looking after yourself.  We’d be really grateful if you could complete it.

SOME OF US GOT A LITTLE SUNBURNT!

We tried to make the best of the glorious weather (some of us took it to the extreme as you can see). It’s helped so much that the weather has been kind to us over lockdown, there’s something about the sunshine that has really helped! However, this week is predicted to be not-so-spring like…as in lots of rain. If you find yourself feeling low, check in on FIKA, there’s loads of useful tips and advice to help keep your mental health fit!

Stay safe. Keep going. #InThisTogether
