Early Years Educators and Health & Social Care – Level 1

Health & Social Care and Early Years Educator roles are always in demand; from managers to administration to ancillary roles. And whoever you work with, you have the potential to make a massive difference to their life and if that isn't job satisfaction then we don't know what is! With endless opportunities to progress and develop and so many routes to take, Health & Care is one the most rewarding sectors to work within.

Deciding which branch to take on your care worker journey can be a hard choice to make; this Level 1 Diploma allows you to experience working within both childcare and a health and social care environment so that you are able to the right, informed decision for you.

Incorporating practical, social and theoretical skills as well as the opportunity to work on placement, this qualification will give you a broad knowledge and feel for the care sector and is the perfect foundation stone to launch your future from.

• What will be studied

  Course content will include:

  • Two mandatory units
    • Being organised and,
    • Developing a personal progression plan (PPP).

  A further six sector skills units will be studied which will include

   

   

  • Planning a safe childcare environment
  • Providing a pre-school children's reading activity
  • Providing an activity to support children's numeracy
  • Finding out about health and social care services
  • Advising others about healthy lifestyles
  • Providing a creative activity when caring for people
• What are the entry requirements?

  There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but in order to be considered for this hugely popular course, you will need 

  • Provide a suitable reference
  • Complete an interview task
  • Have a strong work ethic
  • Have excellent people skills
  • A caring nature
  • Have a reasonable level of literary (Grades 3-1/D-G)

   

  You will be required to attend an interview at the college to assess your suitability for the course.

• Where does this course lead to?

  Completion of this Level 1 diploma will open up an array of progression routes, such as:

  • Level 2 Childcare
  • Level 2 Health and Social Care

  Or alternatively, allow you to take your first step onto the career ladder as a

  • Nursery assistant
  • Pre-school assistant
  • Care assistant
  • Domiciliary care worker
• What qualifications will be gained?

  Completion of this course will allow you to gain the following:-

  • BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate in Caring for Children
  • BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate Health and Social Care
• How will this course be delivered?

  This programme will be delivered via

  • Practical workshops
  • Theoretical studies
  • Tutorials from our award-winning staff

  We will organise a one week work placement for you as part of this course, enabling you to apply what you have learned to a real-life role and gain industry experience and knowledge. You will spend one day each week, for approximately 10 weeks attending your placement.

• How will I be assessed?

  Assessment will come in a variety of formats on this course.

  You will be required to complete:

  • A range of formal written assessments
  • A project which your tutor will issue

   You will also be required to

  • Plan and carry out activities for children and adults.
  • Take part in an information sharing event to promote a healthy lifestyle
