Early Years Educators Diploma – Level 3

Our Level 3 Diploma will unlock your potential as childcare worker and open doors to an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding career. On completion of this course you will be able to be employed as an Early Years Educator. This qualification also attracts UCAS points, making it ideal for those who wish to progress to a degree.

Covering a diverse and intensive study programme with key focus on child development, safeguarding and partnership working, this qualification will positively prepare you for working within the Early Years sector, assisting you in growing your personal, social and theoretical expertise and installing the confidence and self-belief to work within a sometimes challenging environment.

  • What will be studied

    The qualification covers a wealth of information, skills and practices.

    The 15 units which you will study consist of:

    • Child development
    • Child welfare
    • The importance of implementing Health and Safety regulations
    • Safeguarding
    • Child observation
    • Catering for additional needs,
    • Partnership working
    • School readiness
    • The key principles of play and learning
    • Literacy and numeracy
    • International perspectives
    • Reflective practice
    • A professional practice portfolio is also assessed in the workplace.

    Placement experience is a compulsory part of the course and provides the practical skills needed to work with children. Carers will need to undertake two days per week assessed work experience in a variety of early year's settings, arranged by the college.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    In order to be considered for this popular qualification, you must have:

    • 5 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above to include English Language and Maths
    • OR CACHE Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce with placement experience plus GCSE English Language at grade C/4 and Maths at grade D/3 or above.
    • GCSE Maths to be retaken alongside in year one to achieve grade C/4.

    PLEASE NOTE: Those wishing to progress to university to study Teacher Training must have GCSE English, Maths and Science at grade C/4 or above.  

  • Where does this course lead to?

    This intensive study meets the requirements to be employed as an Early Years Educator and also attracts UCAS points, making it ideal for those who wish to progress to a degree in a related discipline.

    Upon achievement care workers can progress into employment within the early year's sector such as

    • Nurseries and schools,
    • Working with children in holiday clubs in the UK or abroad
    • Working as a children's nanny
    • Access higher education in a relevant and related discipline.
  • What qualifications will be gained?

    Completion of this intensive course will allow you to gain the a Technical Diploma in Childcare and Education (EYE) Level 3.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    This programme will be delivered via

    • Practical workshops
    • Theoretical studies
    • Tutorials from our award-winning staff

    The course is delivered across four days at the Main Kidderminster College Campus with two of these being in placement. 30 hours per week in total will be required for this course, this is inclusive of lectures, placement and self-study.

    Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.

    Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be expected to complete a range of tasks including assignments, group presentations, leaflets, displays and posters and show ability in activity planning, risk assessment and child observation.

    You will be required to complete one external assessment during your first year of study and a further external assessment in year two.

    You will also be assessed with all the age ranges in the workplace and will have a dedicated assessor who will set assessments for you to plan and implement.

    Carers must accrue 750 hours experience across four age ranges in order to achieve the course.

    All units must be completed to achieve this diploma.

    You will be required to pay for your DBS check, which will be essential for your career, and for a college uniform; consisting of a polo shirt and sweatshirt. You will be able to wear your own trousers/skirt and shoes.

    Additionally, whilst studying on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;
