Animal Care Diploma – Level 2

Our Level 2 Animal Care Diploma is designed to help you recognise the signs of health, welfare and feeding for a variety of animals. Throughout the course you will work with a number of different species of animals including, ferrets,skunks,reptiles and tenrecs. You will also study the care of exotic animals, exploring, sourcing and transporting the different species along with preparing and maintaining appropriate accommodation.

You'll get an introduction to important topics in Animal Care - you can choose from things like feeding, handling and grooming animals, looking after their accommodation and understanding their health and welfare.You will also cover the science behind animal behaviour, take part in work experience, and gain valuable, transferable skills.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    In order to gain a place on this course, you will need:

    • 4 x GCSE's at grade 3 (formerly D) or above, including Maths and English.
    • A passion for caring for animals 
  • Where does this course lead to?

    There are so many career possiblities once you have this qualification under your belt! After you've gone through and completed Level 3 Animal Care with KC, you can start looking at careers such as:

    Animal Centre/Shelter Worker, Kennel or Cattery Worker, Pet Shop Assistant, Farm Worker (livestock), Animal Physiotherapist, Animal Technician, Applied Animal Behaviourist, Dog Trainer, Kennel Worker, Zoo Keeper

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of this one year course you will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    Tackling both practical work and academic theory, you will divide your time between Kidderminster College main campus and West Midlands Safari Park (which is just up the road from the college).

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment for this Level 2 Diploma will revolve around portfolio work.

    While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;

    • Pens
    • Pencils
    • Memory stick
    • Notepad

    Due to the nature of the course, you will be spending a considerable amount of time outside and in potentially adverse weather conditions. We ask that you bare this in mind and dress appropriately , warmly and invest in some waterproofs.
