Media Production Level 2

The Level 2 Technical Diploma in Digital Audio/Visual Production gives you the opportunity to learn all about working in the media industry by making digital media and print products of your own. You will be able to choose from a variety of options including short films, TV chat shows, advertising campaigns and more.

You will learn the practical skills needed in video making, sound editing, photo-imaging and digital print production. You will also learn how to carry out research and write reports.

Content includes a variety of specialised units such as photography, animation, single and multi-camera techniques, page layout & design and digital graphics. There are also mandatory units, including media production management and critical approaches to media products. You can also opt to study working freelance or developing a small business.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    4 GCSEs at grade 3 (formally grade D) or above, which should ideally include English and/or Mathematics. Alternatively you should have successfully completed a Level 1 programme in the subject area. Mature learners will be considered on an individual basis. A passion for the subject and the ability to work well with others is essential.

     

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Many of our learners progress on to a Level 3 programme in Media Production. Career pathways include new entrant roles such as Trainee Assistant Photographers, Production Runners/Assistants or Junior Researchers. You can also progress to higher level apprenticeships as a Production Co-ordinator in Broadcasting or pursue a BBC Technology Apprenticeship

  • How will this course be delivered?

    You will study at college four days a week and will be involved in practical production projects which may involve supervised visits to clients and filming locations.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed through practical projects with formal deadlines. These projects include some assessment of written communication skills, presentation skills and research skills for the media industries. There are also internal and external assessments set by the awarding body.

    You will need to invest in a USB stick/key of at least 8GB and also provide your own SD cards so that you can back up your own work. You will need to DVDs or CDs to submit practical work.
