Art & Design Diploma – Level 3

This high energy Art and Design course will include fine art training from basic drawing and building skills. This will then progress to include a conceptual performance, media and installation element. The aim of this highly innovative programme is to give the learner full access to art discourse and processes, allowing them to take their own journey of discovery into the Arts Industry.

Emphasis will be placed upon students' ability in methods of creative production by maintaining an open mind towards the exploration of new ideas through risk-taking through the course progression.

The programme will also include Art Theory and reinforce the learner's actions and intent. This course will be a journey in aesthetics and will be led by professional conceptual artists from very different facets of the arts.

  • What will be studied

    The modules on our National Foundation Diploma in Art and Design include four mandatory units and two optional units, these include;

    • Visual Recording and Communication
    • Critical and Contextual Studies in Art and Design
    • The Creative Process
    • Live Art
    • Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design
    • Interactive Design Materials, Techniques and Processes
    • Fine Art Materials, Techniques and Processes
  • What are the entry requirements?
    • 5 GCSES at grade 4/5 or above including Maths and English
    • An artistic flair is essential
    • A portfolio showcasing your work

    You will be required to attend an interview at the college to assess your suitability for the course.

    Please bring your portfolio and other examples of your work.

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Our National Foundation Diploma in Art and Design could lead to;

    • Our second year Extended Diploma in Art and Design


    • FDA Creative Arts and Design Practice
    • FDA Photography and Digital Imaging
    • FDA Fashion and Clothing
    • HND Graphic and Digital Design

    Our Extended Diploma in Art and Design could lead to;

    • BA(Hons) Art and Design
    • BA(Hons) Graphic Design
    • BA(Hons) Photography
  • How will this course be delivered?

    This programme will be delivered in:

    • Our art studio
    • Theatre
    • Media Lab
    • The outside environment

    The study programme is 4 days a week.

    Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.

  • How will I be assessed?

    On our National Foundation Diploma, you will study 6 units, 4 of which are internally assessed in a variety of tasks including written essays, practical application of artistic skills, digital artistic practices and creation of a variety of portfolio's.

    The remaining 2 units will be assessed as external assessments, 1 being a written case study, the other being a practical response to a given stimulus.

    While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;

    • Memory stick
    • Notepad

    Due to the nature of the course, there will be an additional cost for course materials.
