Vehicle Respraying – Level 1

Pursuing a career in accident repair and auto body repair painting means you can pursue entry level positions with a long list of potential employers. Better still, you don't need a university degree to pursue these great career opportunities as a Refinishing Prep or Auto Body Technician.

This Level 1 Diploma will see you covering the skills and knowledge required to work within the auto-finishing world. You will be introduced to the array of professional equipment, finishes and techniques as well as applying your growing skillset to practical assessments, tasks and challenges.

Accredited by City and Guilds, this introductory qualification is an essential stepping stone for any aspiring auto-finisher or body-sprayer, providing a solid basis for progression onto a Level 2 diploma and a lucrative career.

Sponsored by Lechler you will be working with professional respraying equipment, materials and finishes throughout the study period.

  • What will be studied

    Over the academic year, you will study:-

    • The key aspects of health and safety in the workshop
    • The essential tools and equipment required for body respray
    • How to valet vehicles
    • An introduction to missing and applying foundation materials
    • Aspects of vehicle technology
    • Various masking techniques
  • What are the entry requirements?

    There are no entry requirements in order to be considered for this popular course, however, you will need to:-

    • Provide a suitable reference
    • Have a strong work ethic
    • Be able to problem-solve
    • Have a passion for all things motor vehicle
    • Be practically minded

    You will be required to attend an interview to ascertain your suitability for the course.

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Completion of this course will lead to you moving on to a Level 2 Diploma in Accident Repair Paint or alternatively, a two year, hands-on apprenticeship.

    You will need to pass the first year of this qualification in order to progress onto the second.

    Career progression includes working within auto dealerships, privately owned service shops or franchised auto collision shops.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    This practical based course will be delivered through:-

    • Presentations
    • Task-based exercises
    • Practical demonstrations
    • 1:1 support
    • Tutorials and lectures

    You will be working within Kidderminster College's Vocational Skils Centre, where you will be repairing and deconstructing the numerous cars that we have on-site.

    This practical course will see you gain industry work experience through tasks, exercises and trips. We aim to organise a visit to the Lechler main site so that you are able to experience different working environments. 

  • How will I be assessed?

    Throughout this course, you will be assessed on each unit via:-

    • Practical assignments
    • Coursework
    • Presentations
    • Class work

    You will be awarded a pass or a fail on successful completion of each unit.
