Sports Diploma – Level 2

Our Level 2 Sports Diploma is designed to provide a strong understanding of the sports and leisure sector, providing you with industry specific knowledge to prepare you for a career in the sporting world.

During this qualification, you'll study wider aspects of sport including principles of anatomy, fitness training, team and individual sports, lifestyle and nutrition of an athlete and assessing risk in sport. This will allow you to develop a confident and broad knowledge of all the essentials required to work within this sector.

There will be an opportunity to take part in a three-day outdoor activities residential activity consisting of water sports, high ropes, rock climbing amongst others.

• What will be studied

  During this Level 2 Diploma, you will cover aspects of:-

  • Practical Sport
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sport
  • Fitness Testing and Training
  • Nutrition for Sports Performance
  • Development of Personal Fitness
  • Effects of Exercise on the Body Systems
  • Injury in Sport
  • Planning and Leading Sports 
• What are the entry requirements?

  In order to be considered for this physically demanding course, you will be required to:

  • Hold a minimum of 4 GCSE passes at grade 3 or above, including English
  • Or, a BTEC or other equivalent foundation level course awarded at a pass grade
  • Be self-motivated
  • Have a high level of fitness
  • Be able to proactively work within a team and independently
  • Have a strong work ethic

  You will be required to attend an interview to ascertain your suitability for the course, your interview may consist of practical activities.

  There are so many career possiblities once you have this qualification and your Level 3 under your belt!

  Personal Trainer, Sports Coach, Football Referee, Sports Therapist, Sports Journalist, Physiotherapist, Sports Tutor

• What qualifications will be gained?

  At the end of this 1 year programme you will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure.

• How will this course be delivered?

  This practical based course will be delivered through:-

  • Presentations
  • Task-based exercises
  • Practical demonstrations
  • 1:1 support
  • Tutorials and lectures

  This study programme will be taught over 16 hours over four days and will be delivered at Kidderminster College Main Campus alongside local sporting facilities

  Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.

  Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week.

• How will I be assessed?

  Throughout this course, you will be assessed on each unit via:-

  • Practical assignments
  • Coursework
  • Presentations
  • Class work

  You will be awarded a pass or a fail on successful completion of each unit.
