Sports Diploma – Level 1

Sport and Active Leisure is an exciting and fast-growing industry with a wide range of job opportunities. #TeamKC's Sport qualifications involve all the activities that you choose to do in your free time, whether it is playing sport, watching matches on the television, eating out or visiting a theme park

This Level 1 Sport programme is designed to introduce you to the exciting world of sport and leisure. Industry experts will teach a combination of theory and practical sessions and students will take part in a minimum of 36 hours work experience with local organisations to experience real-life delivery to groups of participants.

The programme covers key modules that will provide students with a valuable insight to the sector and may include subjects such as anatomy and physiology, coaching children, taking part in sport, planning and leading sports events and units covering what it takes to work in the sport and leisure industry.

  • What will be studied

    Over the course of this academic year, you will study:-

    • Taking part in sports
    • Improving own fitness
    • Risks and hazards in sport and active leisure
    • Taking part in exercise and fitness
    • How the body works
    • Planning a fitness programme
    • Assisting in sports and active leisure activities to plan and deliver an activity
    • Working in sport and active leisure
    • Sport and active leisure group project
  • What are the entry requirements?

    There are no formal requirements for this qualification, however, you will be required to:

    • Have a general level of literacy and numeracy
    • Be self-motivated
    • Have a high level of fitness
    • Be able to proactively work within a team and independently
    • Have a strong work ethic

    You will be required to attend an interview to ascertain your suitability for the course, your interview may consist of practical activities

  • Where does this course lead to?

    On completion of this qualification you will be able to progress onto your Level 3 Diploma, or alternatively seek an apprenticeship in a related field.  

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of this 1 year programme you will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure

  • How will this course be delivered?

    This practical based course will be delivered through:-

    • Presentations
    • Task-based exercises
    • Practical demonstrations
    • 1:1 support
    • Tutorials and lectures

    This study programme will be taught over 16 hours over four days and will be delivered at Kidderminster College Main Campus alongside local sporting facilities.

    Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.

    Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Throughout this course, you will be assessed on each unit via:-

    • Practical assignments
    • Coursework
    • Presentations
    • Class work

    You will be awarded a pass or a fail on successful completion of each unit.
