Uniformed Services – Level 3

At the end of this two-year qualification, you'll gain a solid understanding of the skills and demands required for a career in the public services, learning about a range of subjects such as leadership, navigation, coaching skills, conflict management, personal protection and drill, all which are essential components for a career in the public sector.

You'll have the opportunity to take part in activities which will enhance your understanding of a career in the industry; for example, opportunities to go on residential visits to develop team work and leadership skills, and meeting a range of guest speakers from the Army, Navy and the Police and participating in recruitment events. We will provide you with an understanding of the personal commitment and fitness requirements needed to be employed in a uniformed service role.

This qualification will provide you with a solid foundation to see you step up and achieve your dream career and allow you to progress to employment or further study and towards the entry qualifications and requirements of a specific uniformed service.

  • What will be studied

    • 5 GCSEs at grades 4 or above to include English and Maths

    Eventually, you can apply for a job in the:

    • Royal Marines or Royal Navy
    • RAF or Army
    • Fire Service
    • Police or Prison Service
    • Paramedics
  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of this one year programme you will gain a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Public Services

  • How will this course be delivered?

    This practical based course will be delivered through:-

    • Presentations
    • Task-based exercises
    • Practical demonstrations
    • 1:1 support
    • Tutorials and lectures

    This study programme will be taught over 16 hours over four days and will be delivered at Kidderminster College Main Campus and at a number of sporting facilities within the local area.   

    Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.

    Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week.

    You will be required to complete a work experience placement, which the college will organise for you, of a minimum of 180 hours across the academic year

  • How will I be assessed?

    Throughout this course, you will be assessed on each unit via:-

    • Practical assignments
    • Coursework
    • Presentations
    • Class work

    You will be awarded a pass or a fail on successful completion of each unit.

    This qualification requires:

    • A college uniform that can be purchased through the college website
    • Clothing for practical activities such as fitness and outdoor activities
