Want a career working behind the scenes? Passionate about the magic of theatre-making? Then you're in the right place.
This intensive Level 3 qualification will provide you with training in a professional capacity by industry specialists. In classes and through workshops you will gain a strong technical grounding in Production Arts, including lighting and sound operation, set design, costume design, and stage management, along with professional development and enrichment studies.
Our approach aims to relate theory to practice, inform the development of your own creative vision, and enhance lifelong skills for employment. Throughout this course, you are encouraged to be versatile and critically evaluate your own skills as you grow in confidence and maturity.
Your skill set will be showcased in a number of productions throughout your training. Our Ignite 'Techie Team' gets the opportunity to work collaboratively with all Performing Arts courses to produce performances in our purpose-built in-house studio theatre space, and in external spaces.
Ignite Technical Theatre works the closest, and most collaboratively, with Ignite Musical Theatre and Ignite Acting, which allows you to create your own bespoke training programme to best suit your needs and future career goals.
Upon successful completion of your first year of training, you will receive a UAL Level 3 Diploma in Performing & Production Arts (Technical Theatre). Then, after the successful completion of your second year, you will receive a UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts (Technical Theatre).
The UAL Level 3 Diploma in Performing & Production Arts (Technical Theatre) and the UAL Level 3 Diploma in Performing & Production Arts (Technical Theatre) are assessed against the following guidance for all units undertaken:
Work experience opportunities:
Ignite Acting, Musical Theatre and Technical Theatre make frequent visits to watch live theatre, both locally and on the West End, as well as taking part in external workshops, community performances and charity events. In addition to this, learners are guided and encouraged to gain work experience within specialist fields and local venues.
English and Maths:
Your course will help you build on your English and Maths skills in a practical setting. All Ignite students will participate in activities that require these skills throughout their two years training; through submitting written documentation to support practical assessments and working in an industry-grade theatre and production arts workshop.
We have a set uniform and kit list required for your daily activities of study and assessments. Upon success of obtaining a place on the course, you will receive all the relevant information needed.
We provide a bursary programme which offers help and support to students from low-income families.
We pride ourselves on outstanding success and progression rates, with previous learners achieving places at Falmouth University, University of Salford, UCEN Manchester and Chichester Conservatoire. Learners have also been successful in gaining full-time employment and free-lance employment on completion of their studies… even here at Kidderminster College!
Alternatively, should you feel you need a little more time to develop your skills before you pursue professional training further, you can apply for our Higher National Certificate in Performing Arts here at Kidderminster College.
