Motorcycle Maintenance & Repair Diploma – Level 1

This qualification is primarily designed to engage and motivate aged 14 to 19 year olds who are interested in learning about the maintenance of motorcycles, the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry, and would therefore like a qualification that will support their progress into the retail motor vehicle industry.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However selection criteria for entry should take into account each applicant's existing academic/vocational qualifications, experience, and interest in working in the industry sectors.

The course focuses on the methods of motor cycle maintenance and repair and the necessary recording documentation.

  • What will be studied

    Over the study period, you will cover:-

    • Support for job roles in the automotive environment
    • Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment
    • Routine motorcycle maintenance
    • Motorcycle internal engine systems
    • Removing and replacing motorcycle electrical units and components
    • Motorcycle preparation and inspection
  • What are the entry requirements?

    There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however you will need:-

    • To provide a suitable reference
    • Be practically minded
    • Have a passion for mechanics
    • Have a strong work ethic
  • Where does this course lead to?

    This qualification forms the knowledge component (technical certificate) of the IMI SSC Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship framework (for Motorcycle). When an apprentice has achieved a L2 Apprenticeship, they can then choose to broaden their education and training in other ways from this firm base such as a Motorcycle Technician, Development Technician,

    • Personal Protective Equipment
    • Steel-toe-capped footwear
    • Suitable overalls
