The Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training is a teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement. It is an 'in service' qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers in England.
This course will enable you to take a practical and analytical approach to all the aspects of training and education, right from planning and designing learning through to teaching, assessing and supporting learners. You will also cover the theories and principles of education and training and be given the opportunity to embed these in your own teaching and practice

You will be supported to achieve a Level 5 qualification that is most useful in the post-16 education sector. It is a challenging, but highly rewarding course where you will explore the wonderful world of teaching and learning-both theory and practical!

There are 4 mandatory units and 3 optional units. This qualification will take an analytical and practical approach to all aspects of planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. Whilst doing this, candidates will embed theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in their practice.
You must be 19+. You should have a level 2 English and maths qualification or be working towards it. You need to be qualified/experienced in the subject you want to teach to a level 3 standard. You have to be able to undertake at least 100 hours of teaching time over the two year course, this must be spread over the duration of the course to enable ongoing development.
The qualification allows candidates to progress into employment as Teachers/Trainers in the post-16 sector.

The course is delivered via part-time attendance of once a week, currently Thursday mornings 9.30 - 1.30
All units are internally assessed throughout the course by completion of written assessments. These units are both internally and externally moderated. A minimum of 8 hours of lesson observations must be completed throughout the two year course.

As a Level 5 teaching qualification, the course content is exactly the same as a PGCE in Lifelong Learning and carries the same value and credit with regulators, employers and the education and training sectors. Once you have completed the DET this will enable you to gain QTLS - Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status with the Society for Learning/Education and Training Foundation, the professional body for further education and teaching qualifications.
