This course is designed for those wishing to return to study with a view to entering Higher Education in a health or caring related field. It is an excellent course for students to develop skills needed to progression for a variety of Level 3 courses but is aimed specifically to lead onto the Access to HE (Health Professionals) Level 3 Diploma.
Objectives of the Course:
You'll study of a range of topics such as psychology, biology, health and study skills.
You'll also take courses in English Language and Maths leading to sitting the GCSE examinations for these subjects in May/June.
Functional Skills in ICT will be embedded throughout the qualification to improve knowledge across a wide range of applications including MS word, PowerPoint and spreadsheets.
Although there are no formal entry requirements, learners must achieve Level 1 Functional Skills in English/Maths minimum In order to study towards GCSE English/Maths.
Upon successful completion of the Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Further Study in Health and attainment of GCSE English Language at grade 4 or higher you will be able to progress onto the Access to HE Diploma (level 3) course which will prepare you for entry to study a wide range of professional qualifications and degree courses.
The course will typically run for two days a week for approximately 10 hours in total.
The Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Further Study in Health is assessed continually via class and homework assessment tasks such as essays, individual research, reports, presentations and timed tests.
GCSE examinations are undertaken in May and June.
ICT functional skills examinations can be taken at any point during the course when your tutor feels that you are ready to sit these.

Depending on your career aspirations, it may be useful to seek voluntary work or part time paid work in the field to which you are hoping to pursue.
It is expected that this course will be funded directly for those who do not have full level 2 qualifications, however in the event of government changes to funding this may alter.
This course is designed to progress onto Access to HE (Health Professionals) and then career opportunities within healthcare following higher education study.
