Hair & Media Make-Up Diploma – Level 3

The make-up industry is cut-throat world, where only the brightest and most talented make it, and that's what we aim for you to be on completion of this qualification.KC's Level 3 Hair and Media Make-up Diploma takes it up a notch; mastering all manners of make-up application, including SFX and application of prosthetic pieces, this intensive year long programme will allow you to capitalise, finesse and hone in on the essential skillset you developed during your Level 2 study.

A combination of practical, tutorial and theoretical work will give you the technical knowhow to build an outstanding portfolio, have the confidence to work with an array of clients and utilise a range of different make-up mediums.

Based on Habia National Occupational Standards this qualification is recognised by the UK's largest beauty therapy trade body/professional association as being fit for purpose for preparing students for a career as a make-up artist

 

  • What will be studied

    During this course you will cover the following modules through practical, group, tutorial and theoretical work:

    • Application of Airbrush make-up
    • Camouflage make-up
    • Media make up (including SFX)
    • Mastering Fashion and photographic make-up
    • Individual permanent lashes extensions
    • Style and fit postiche
    • Application of prosthetic pieces and bald caps
  • What are the entry requirements?

    If you are under 19, in order to be considered for this hugely popular course, you will require the following:

    • 4 GCSE's at grade 4 or above; these must include English and three other academic subjects
    • Provide a suitable character reference
    • Complete a written task
    • Possess an artistic flair
    • Have excellent people skills

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Completion of this Level 3 Diploma can lead to:-

    • VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management
    • Further Higher Education study.

    Potential careers outside of education could include:

    • Working at commercial Hair and Beauty salons
    • Self-employed/mobile hair and makeup artist 
    • Assisting within theatre, film, print media, photographic studios
    • Working on Catwalk/ editorial fashion shoots
    • Product development/ manufacturing and training
    • Hospitals/care homes
  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of this study programme you will gain a Level 3 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-up

  • How will this course be delivered?

    This programme will be delivered via

    • Practical workshops
    • Theoretical studies
    • Tutorials from our award-winning staff.

    You will receive practical demonstrations and theory input to develop your knowledge and understanding confidently preparing you for assessment and examination.

    The study programme is 13 hours a week and also includes a 60 hour mandatory work placement.

    Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.

    Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week.

     

  • How will I be assessed?

    Students will have their practical hairdressing, make-up artistry and beauty skills assessed in a realistic salon working environment. Written assignments and online examinations are also used to assess learners' knowledge and understanding.

    While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;

    • Pens
    • Pencils
    • Memory stick
    • Notepad

    Due to the nature of this course a course kit and uniform will be required.
