Games Design Diploma – Level 3

 

 

This course will strongly focus on the art and design aspects of 2D and 3D game design and production, helping you to create a robust and strong durable skillset for you to call upon in the world of work. 

You don't need to have any previous experience of designing games to apply for this course, but you do need to be creative.  

You should be interested in many different genres of games and play on different platforms. You will be required to draw upon your user experience.  

We cover all aspects of games development, not just focussing on one particular area. By looking at and dissecting all components of games development, you'll find a real appreciation of the different elements that go into the making of a game.

• What are the entry requirements?

  To apply for a place on this innovative course, you will need to

  • Hold at least 4 GCSEs including English & Maths at Grade 'C' or 4 and above.
  • Be able to work in a team as well as work independently.

  Additionally, if you would like to provide a portfolio or any art work that you have available, we would love to take a look!

• What qualifications will be gained?

  Year 1 - Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Creative Media Practice

  Year 2 - Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Creative Media Practice

• How will this course be delivered?

  This programme will be delivered via a variety of media:

  • Practical assignments
  • Course work
  • 1:1 support
  • Tutorials
  • Presentations
  • Demonstrations
  • Class work

  Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.

  Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week.

  We have an in-house games studio, Visual Dynamic Studios, where there will be opportunities to work with local businesses.

• How will I be assessed?

  Assessments for this Level 3 Diploma will be after each unit and via:

  • Practical assignments
  • Course work; you can usually base your coursework around your own ideas for games.
  • Presentations
  • Class work

  You will be awarded a Pass/Merit or Distinction for each completed Unit. Once all units are complete, you will receive an overall grade for the course

  A good quality A4 or A3 sketchbook is required for the concept art classes.

  A relatively new computer at home with dedicated graphics processing is recommended but not compulsory.

  While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;
