Equine Care – Level 2

This Technical Certificate in Equine Care KC's entry level Equine Care Diploma introduces you to the basics of horse care. It's
a great stepping stones for people who are keen to work with horses, but don't have previous experience.

You'll spend one day a week at the Sugar Loaf Equestrian Centre and carry out theoretical classes at the college Main Campus.

Our expert staff will help you learn skills in handling horses, grooming, general horse care and carry out weekly riding lessons. There'll also be opportunities to learn about stable management and go on off-site trips.

The college can offer external professional connections who provide placements for work experience alongside completing the course to gain additional industry experience.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    In order to be considered for this course, you will need to have:

    • Know basic knowledge of handling and caring for the horse
    • Ridden experience in walk, trot, canter and jumping a small fence
    • 5 GCSEs at grade 3 (formerly grade C) or above, which should ideally include English and Math
    • You'll need to attend as assessment day to assess your riding and handling skills

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of this one year course you will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Equine Studies.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    Tackling both practical work and academic theory, you will divide your time between Kidderminster College main campus and our stables in Hartlebury.

    This course covers 16 hours of study per week.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment for this Level 2 Diploma will evolve around portfolio work.

    While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;

    All students on the Level 2 Equine course will need:

    • A uniform to include Breeches, Polo Shirt, and Water Proof Coat

  • WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

    After you've completed KC's Equine Care Level 1 Diploma and attained a merit or above, you can move on to:

    • KC Equine Care Diploma Level 3
