Dance – IGNITE Dance Centre Diploma – Level 2

If you aspire to become a professional dancer, choreographer or teacher then this is the perfect launch pad for you. This intensive Level 2 qualification at IGNITE Dance Centre is designed to provide you with the right skills needed to progress onto our highly successful Level 3 Dance course. The course will provide you with training in Ballet, Contemporary, Urban, Choreography, Jazz, and Tap. During your studies you will work alongside our expert staff, who are outstanding practitioners that still perform professionally within the industry.

You will have the opportunity to showcase your developing skill set in a number of performances throughout the year.

In order to gain a deeper understanding of how the Performing Arts industry works you will have the opportunity to work with other art disciplines such as: Music, Acting and Musical Theatre within a performance environment.

This allows Dancers to progress onto the level 3 dance courser where you will be stretched and challenged further to enhance your skills which will broaden your opportunities to secure places at the UKs most prestigious conservatories such as: Laban, Laine Theatre Arts, Bird College, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, LIPA , Masters, The Urdang Academy, Shockout, Morea, MADD, Performers and Tiffanys Theatre School.

  • What will be studied

    You will study a variety of units over one academic year

    This is predominantly focused on 'Technical Development', where you will develop and refine your technical ability and understanding in all styles of dance studied. Units include:

    • Contemporary Dance Technique
    • Ballet
    • Jazz
    • Urban
    • Choreography
    • Tap Dance
    • Performance Preparation
    • Performing Arts Business


    Throughout your year of training, you will perfect your craft and additional private singing and acting classes are available if you wish to audition for performing arts schools, which will be scheduled outside of your timetable.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    In order to be considered for this popular qualification, you must have:

    • 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (formerly grade D) or above, which should ideally include Maths and English, or completion of a Level 1 course.
    • A passion for dance
    • A strong work ethic
    • The ability to work as part of a team
    • The initiative to work independently


    Once we have received your application you will then be invited to an audition where you will complete classes in Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz. You will also need to perform a short solo which best showcases your talents. You will then complete a short interview with our course leader.

  • Where does this course lead to?

    Progression from this course can lead to securing a place on our Level 3 Dance course. Whereby you will enhance your skills further to make you to best possible dancer.

    You must complete your Level 2 course with a merit profile, good attendance and excellent aptitude towards dance in order to be considered to join the level 3 course.

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    You will gain an Edexcel Level 2 Dance Diploma.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    This programme will be delivered via

    • Practical workshops
    • Theoretical studies
    • Tutorials from our award-winning staff



    This is a full-time study programme and you are required to be at college 4 days a week.



    Compulsory evening rehearsals will be timetabled during show terms and busy periods, at the discretion of the course leader.

  • How will I be assessed?

    You will undergo a series of practical assessments throughout the year. Each assessment is run under exam conditions where you will perform your set classes in front of an invited audience and your dance teachers.

    You will also complete a range of theoretical assessments through essay writing.

    Students aged 19+ will be subject to fees. Student finance offers help with Advanced Learner Loans and support to students, please contact Student Services on 01562 512003 or for more information.

    This is a specialist course and requires specific equipment. IGNITE Dance students are required to wear compulsory uniform specific for each discipline.

    You will also be required to purchase IGNITE Dance Centre uniform consisting of a hoodie, t-shirt and vest top

    In order to enrich your understanding of dance there will be range of trips to theatres throughout the academic year.

    Details of the above will be provided upon course acceptance.

    We provide a bursary programme which offers help and support to students from low income families

    Additionally, whilst studying on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;

    • Pens
    • Pencils
    • Memory stick
    • Notepad
