Carpentry Diploma – Level 3

Level 3 Site Carpentry is designed for students progressing from Level 2 Site Carpentry and those who have decided to pursue a career as site carpenters.

The course consists of both practical and theoretical elements needed for working in the construction industry. Practical activities and assessment typically covers the fitting of quarter turn staircase, kitchens, roofs, steam bending skirting, doors frames, double doors, mouldings, flooring and ironmongery set up and use wood working machinery coupled with geometry based practical activities. 

  • What will be studied

    Over the course of this qualification, you will study:-

    • Fitting of mouldings, flooring and ironmongery
    • The set up and use of wood working machinery
    • Geometry based practical activities
    • Practicing traditional roofcuts
    • Refresh on carrying out first fix flooring and roofing
    • Completing second fixing double doors and moldings
    • Tackling more complicated first fix roofing and stairs
  • What are the entry requirements?

    In order to be considered for this programme, you will need to:

    • Have 4 GCSES at grade D/3 or above including Maths and English
    • Or completion of Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery
    • Provide a suitable reference
    • Have a strong work ethic
    • Have excellent people skills


    You will be required to attend an interview at the college to assess your suitability for the course.

    • Commercial carpenter
    • Industrial carpenter
    •  Bench carpenter
  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of this course programme you will gain a Level 3 City & Guilds Diploma in Site Carpentry

    As per Level 2, part of this course will include two weeks of work placement which Kidderminster College will arrange for you. This will allow you to expand on your new skillset, theoretical knowledge and growing confidence and can be added to bolster your CV.

  • How will I be assessed?

    As part of your assessment for this course you will

    • Complete both online and paper based exams.
    • Practical work and examinations
    • Practical assessments will include the fitting of stairs, kitchens, roofs, skirting etc.


    You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction on successful completion of each unit

    Students aged 19+ will be subject to fees. Student finance offers help with Advanced Learner Loans and support to students, please contact Student Services on 01562 512003 or for more information.

    While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;

    • Pens
    • Pencils
    • Memory stick
    • Notepad


    You also will require the following:-

    • Safety footwear
    • College Polo shirt

    After you've completed your Level 3 qualification you can seek in employment in the Carpentry and Joinery industry
