Brickwork Diploma – Level 1

Looking at becoming a brickie? There's so many career paths that come out of having a Brickwork Diploma; whether it be repair work, building houses, restoration work or setting up your own business, the skills you learn are indispensable and form the foundation for a rock solid career.  

If you're practically minded, our Level 1 Brickwork Diploma is course is for you. You're learn, develop and practise the basic skills of bricklaying, developing the essential groundwork to become skilled in your chosen trade and a master craftsman.   

  • What will be studied

    During this course you will cover the following modules through practical, group, tutorial and theoretical work:

    • Health and safety
    • Mixing concrete
    • Understanding the principles of construction
    • How to set out buildings
    • Being able to carry out safe working practice
    • Building methods and construction
    • Basic brick and block laying skills
    • Site communication methods

     

     

    You'll also study English and Maths alongside this course if required

     

     

  • What are the entry requirements?

    There are no formal entry requirements for entry onto this course ​​​​​​, however, you will need to:

    • Have a reasonable standard of literacy and numeracy
    • Strong work ethic
    • Excellent people skills

    Construction Site Supervisor, Apprentice Bricklayer, Building Supplies Operative, Construction Manager, Self-employed Contractor  

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of this study programme you will gain a Level 1 City & Guilds Diploma in Brickwork.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    This programme will be delivered via

    • Practical assignments
    • Course work
    • Presentations
    • Demonstrations
    • Class work

    The study programme is 13 hours a week and also includes a 60 hour mandatory work placement.

    Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.

    Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessments will occur at the end of each unit for practical and theory work.

    This will take the form of multiple-choice examinations

    You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction on successful completion of each unit.

    While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;

    • Pens
    • Pencils
    • Memory stick
    • Notepad

    You will require the following:-

    • Safety footwear
    • 3m tape measure
    • We will supply additional PPE
