Animal Care – Level 3

This Animal Management Level 3 qualification will provide you with a practical and theoretical understanding of animal management. On this course you'll learn about; delivering the highest standards of animal husbandry and handling, animal anatomy, behaviour and nutrition and how to undertake health checks on an animal using your knowledge of animal health and disease amongst a huge array of other topics and modules.

This course gives you experience with a wide range of animal groups at the amazing Safari Academy and sets you up for lots of different options in the animal industry for your future career.

As part of this qualification, you'll be taking part in 150 days of work experience.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    In order to gain a place on this course, you will need:

    Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Animal Management (580) -

    • 5 x GCSE's grade 5 and above. Must include English and a Science OR a Merit in Level 2 Technical Certificate in Animal Care
    • A successful interview and reference / Progress Review for progressors

     

    Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management (1080 Zoo Pathway) - 

    • Merit or above from level 3 Year 1 (580)
    • Successful interview / Progress Review for progressors
    • Merit in Biology module 306 - desirable

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of this two year course you will achieve an Animal Management Technical Extended Qualification Level 3

    This combined two year course is the equivalent to three A-Levels.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    All practical and theory elements of this full time course will take place at WMSP (3 days a week)

    Mucking out the animals is still a thing, there's no escaping it!

    A minimum of 18 hours will be spent each week studying for this course.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment for this Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Animal Management will revolve around internal assessments, both written and practical, externally set exams and practical assessments. Moderation will be externally assessed by City & Guilds.

    While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;

    • Pens
    • Pencils
    • Notepad 
    • Food for the day

     

    Students are required to wear the Animal Care uniform while on site at West Midland
    Safari Park

    Overalls and sturdy boots will be required when practical lessons are scheduled 

    Please be aware as the Level 3 is an academically challenging course, there may be more theory lectures than for other courses
