Animal Care – Level 1

The Level 1 Diploma in Work Based Animal Care provides a unique glimpse into the world of working with animals. This course is ideal for anyone with a passion for animals but has little experience of working with them. During the year you'll have the opportunity to care for, feed and clean out a variety of different animals as well as understanding how to maintain their enclosures and work in a clean and safe environment.

You'll be given the chance to witness the day-to-day life at West Midland Safari Park and watch as some
of the larger animals are cared for right outside the classrooms! This practical course gives you the experience and skills needed to progress to higher level courses!

    • Animal accommodation

    • Maintaining structures and surfaces

    • Movement and handling of animals

    • Animal feedstuffs

  • What are the entry requirements?

    In order to gain a place on this course, you will need:

    • Minimum 3 x GCSE's grade 2 or above

    • A passion for caring for animals

    • A successful interview and reference

  • Where does this course lead to?

    There are so many career possiblities once you have this qualification under your belt! After you've gone through and completed Level 2 and Level 3 Animal Care with KC, you can start looking at careers such as:

    • Animal technician/assistant

    • Animal centre/shelter worker

    • Kennel or cattery worker

    • Pet shop assistant

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of this one year course you will achieve a Level 1 Diploma in Work Based Animal Care.

  • How will this course be delivered?

    You will study both practical work and academic theory at West Midland Safari Park

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment for this Level 1 course will revolve around portfolio work.

    While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;

    • Pens
    • Pencils
    • Notepad
    • Food for the day

     

    Students are required to wear the Animal Care uniform while on site at West Midland Safari Park

    Overalls and sturdy boots will be required when practical lessons are scheduled
