This Level 1 Diploma is one of our most popular courses aims to provide you with the basic skills and knowledge to work within a supervised role and is perfect if you are just starting out on your animal care journey. We're proud to be the only college in the UK to partner with West Midland Safari Park! You'll be learning at their Safari Academy (right next to the hippo enclosure) and learn how to care for their huge range of animals!

How to handle and care for animals
Learning all about feeding animals and actually doing it!
How to set up animal accommodation
How to maintain animal accomodation, such as making sure structures are safe, surfaces are clean etc.
Assisting with exercising animals and learning the principal care elements for each one
There are no formal requirements for entry onto this course, however you will need a passion for animals and a successful interview with WMSP
There are so many career possiblities once you have this qualification under your belt! After you've gone through and completed Level 2 and Level 3 Animal Care with KC, you can start looking at careers such as:
Animal Centre/Shelter worker, Kennel or Cattery worker, Pet Shop assistant, Farm Worker (livestock), Animal Physiotherapist, Animal Technician, Applied Animal Behaviourist, Dog Trainer, Kennel Worker, Zoo Keeper
At the end of this one year course you will achieve a Level 1 Diploma in Work Based Animal Care.
You will study both practical work and academic theory at West Midland Safari Park
And yes, you will have to get involved in mucking out the animals!
Assessment for this Level 1 Diploma will revolve around portfolio work.

While on the course we would expect you to bring equipment to classes to assist with completing lesson tasks, such as;
Due to the nature of the course, you will be spending a considerable amount of time outside and in potentially adverse weather conditions. We ask that you bare this in mind and dress appropriately, warmly and invest in some waterproofs. You will require your own set of overalls and sturdy boots for all practical activities.
After you've completed KC's Animal Care Level 1 Diploma, you can move on to:
