Acting Diploma – Level 3

Do you love acting and dream of being a professional actor, writer or director? Then this intensive Level 3 course is ideal for you!

Joining IGNITE Acting will offer you training in a professional capacity by industry specialists. Within classes and workshops you will gain a strong technical grounding in acting and performance, alongside professional and personal development.

IGNITE Acting have a proud history of training actors. In each generation,  both past and current, we have seen our alumni performing on stage and screen, including ex-student Rufus Norris being appointed as the Artistic Director of the Royal National Theatre.

  • What will be studied

    Over your two years you will cover a variety of units including:

    • Acting for the camera
    • Contemporary Theatre
    • Physical Theatre
    • Voice and the actor
    • Audition techniques
    • Comedy drama
    • Improvisation
    • Performing Arts Business
    • Drama in the community
    • Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre
    • Singing for Actors
    • Directing
    • Writing for stage and screen

    Acting students will also have the opportunity to collaborate on performances with other courses including Musical Theatre, Music, Media Make-up and Digital Media.

  • What are the entry requirements?

    In order to be considered for a place on the course, you will need to have:- 

    • 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (formerly grade C) or above, which should ideally include English and Maths
    • Alternatively completion of a Level 2 qualification in the subject area, with an overall Merit profile.
    • A passion for the acting industry
    • Ability to work independently and with others is essential.
    • You will need to attend an interview and an audition or present a portfolio of work appropriate to the subject area.
    • Please note; during the entry process, individual circumstances where learners do not fully meet the entry requirements may be considered.

  • What qualifications will be gained?

    At the end of the two year study period, you will gain a BTEC Edexcel Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts - Acting

  • How will this course be delivered?

    Due to the nature of the subject, this is an intensive full-time study course and you will be required to be at college for minimum of twelve hours per week over four days.

    Compulsory evening rehearsals will be timetabled during show terms and busy periods, at the discretion of the course leader.

    Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but this may vary. Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week. Additional times will be communicated to you via your course leader.

    IGNITE Acting make frequent visits to watch live theatre, both locally and on the West End, as well as taking part in external workshops, community performances and charity events.

    The course is delivered by taught classes and rehearsals leading to large scale public performances. Past performances have included Of Mice and Men, Wuthering Heights, A Mouthful of Birds, Crave and ROAD.

    The dynamic two year course will equip you with all the skills and confidence you need to progress to Drama School and into the professional working world, along with offering you the opportunity to direct your peers in theatrical productions, allowing you to develop a vast extent  of creative opportunities.

    We have outstanding success and progression rates, with previous learners achieving places at East 15, Rose Bruford, LAMDA, The Arden School of Theatre, University of Chichester and Falmouth University, you needn't look anywhere else.

  • How will I be assessed?

    Assessment for this Acting Diploma Level 3 is continuous in and will take place within

    • Class rehearsals
    • Performances
    • Allocated coursework.
    • Internal and external assessments set by the awarding body

    Places on this course are offered by meeting entry requirements, an audition or the presentation of a portfolio of work appropriate to Acting and an interview.

    As previously mentioned, individual circumstances where learners do not fully meet the entry requirements may be considered. Please enquire at point of interview.
