Marketing’s very own Apprentice answered a few questions for us this week!
I decided on an Apprenticeship after applying for job after job and making zero progress, I then discovered Apprenticeships and learned that they could be a great stepping stone into a full time career, as I could gain valuable industry experience and earn at the same time! Choosing an Apprenticeship has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Here at Kidderminster College I am a Digital Marketing & Social Media apprentice, in this role I manage all of the college’s social media accounts keeping them constantly up to date, help the Marketing team with large scale events like open evenings and school visits, and help them make everything from posters to newsletters, I’ve really had to get creative!
On this Apprenticeship I’ve had to learn many skills and improve old ones, time management is essential as you are constantly being asked to design new materials for all courses, this is something I’ve had to get to grips with quick! I had a brief knowledge of the ins and outs of marketing before I joined Kidderminster College but I have learnt SO much more since! All of the skills I l have learnt as an apprentice here can be applied to many situations so I feel in future I will be far more confident with tasks like designing a poster or editing a video, my public speaking skills were also a little out of practice so being on this apprenticeship has really increased my confidence again!
I have learnt a lot about marketing since becoming an apprentice, it’s such a broad area! And there are always new and interesting ways to do it, I had never worked full time prior to this, so I know now more than ever that hard work pays off! I have learnt how to use many programmes that were completely alien to me before coming here, like Photoshop, InDesign and Adobe Premier, it’s such a rewarding thing to see materials of your own design posted around the college!
Where do I start! There are so many great reasons why I would recommend going for an apprenticeship, first of all, the experience you will gain is massive! All you hear these days in a job interview is… have you got enough experience? An apprenticeship is a really great step towards getting your foot in the door and kick-starting your career! You learn something new every day whilst earning a wage, and you are supported by your colleagues every step of the way, you are never thrown in at the deep end! This apprenticeship has helped me massively, both personally and professionally, I feel ready to take on anything!
