Adam Watson, KC’s Marketing Apprentice has secured a distinction on his level 3 Business Administrator course. Adam has now secured a job as KC’s Admissions Officer.

After being furloughed due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Adam was looking for a career change and decided to apply to Kidderminster College’s Apprenticeship. We caught up with Adam!

Hi Adam, please introduce yourself…

Hello, my name is Adam Watson and I have recently completed my Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship. Before starting my apprenticeship with the Marketing team at Kidderminster College, I worked in the Leisure industry but due to COVID I was furloughed and subsequently made redundant. I decided that a change in career was needed and decided to look at apprenticeships.

Do you think your apprenticeship helped to develop your workplace skills?

Before starting my apprenticeship I had little office experience. My apprenticeship has helped me to develop the key knowledge, skills and behaviours that are required in the workplace.

Describe your role within your organisation…

My role within the organisation is Marketing and Student Recruitment Officer. I support the day to day running of the Admissions department by responding to queries from prospective students and arranging phone interviews. I also provide support through assisting with events such as Open Evenings and supporting the production of marketing material.

What’s next for you?

Since completing my apprenticeship, I have been offered a permanent position within my organisation. I would like to continue to gain further knowledge and experience in the Marketing department such as learning new programs.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking of applying for an Apprenticeship?

I would advise anyone who is thinking of applying for an apprenticeship to apply. Apprenticeships give you a big opportunity to get first-hand experience in the workplace and learn while also receiving a wage. They allow you to gain the key Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours that are required in your chosen role.

What support was available to you during your apprenticeship?

Throughout my apprenticeship, my colleagues in the Marketing department provided support to me when I was working to complete my Off The Job Training Log Book. I attended events with colleagues such as Careers Fairs and Open Evenings to help me gain the time required. My tutors Jayne and Liz were always on hand to support me when I was working on completing my Project Presentation and Portfolio as well as helping me prepare to take my Knowledge Test.

What is your biggest achievement in the workplace?

My biggest achievement is getting a Distinction in my End Point Assessment.

What do you enjoy about your job?

The thing that I enjoy most is interacting with different people every day. I enjoy supporting my colleagues in the Marketing team with the production of marketing material.

A huge congratulations to Adam pictured with his manager Esther Gittoes
