Severn Valley Railway are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join their team as a carpentry and joinery apprentice. You will be involved in all aspects of overhauling and maintenance of heritage railway carriage bodywork, involving wood working, upholstery and much more ensuring all work is carried out to a museum standard.
Severn Valley Railway maintains an unrivalled fleet of more than 60 passenger carriages, the age of which ranges from 60 to more than 110 years old. Some of these have bodywork constructed almost entirely from hardwood timber. As a carpentry apprentice you’re daily duties will include:-
There is no ‘repair manual’ for these carriages and so the ability to work out what repairs are necessary and how to achieve them is important.
All of this is undertaken at the SVRs own workshops located in Kidderminster and Bewdley, each location having a well appointed joinery shop. Additionally at Kidderminster small specialist workshops are set aside for upholstery and the examination and refurbishment of door locks.
