VTCT Level 3 VRQ in Sports and Fitness  

Aims of the Course

This qualifi cation prepares and trains learners to a professionally competent level enabling them to plan, deliver safe and progressive fitness within a gym environment. It also allows progression onto further
qualifications and career opportunities at Level 3 and above. This qualification is suitable for instructors who are currently working in a gym and wish to pursue a career in the health & fi tness industry as an advanced instructor or personal trainer.

The objectives of this qualification are to develop knowledge of anatomy, physiology, functional kinesiology and concepts and components of fitness.
This qualification will allow you the opportunity to progress onto further higher level qualifications within the exercise and fi tness industry..


Course Content

The course is made up of the following units:
Advanced Exercise & Fitness Knowledge; Advanced
Cardiovascular Training; Advanced Resistance Training; Provide Advanced Massage Treatment; Provide Remedial Massage Treatment; Provide Remedial Body Treatments and Advice; Exhibit Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology (made up of 7 units).

Essential Skills will be incorporated into the programme.
You will be required to complete a short period of work experience in a gym environment during the course. This will be discussed during the induction period.
Please note: this qualification will require the student to partake in physical activity and a degree of physical
fitness is necessary..


Jobs and Careers

Employment in the Health & Fitness industry at an advanced level.

Successful Completion

Creates a stepping-stone to further advancement in the Health & Fitness industry, also allows progression onto courses eg. Physiotherapy via Higher Education. Students may also wish to progress onto qualifications for instructing in other areas of the wider spectrum..

Programme Area: Sports and Fitness.
Course Length: One year full time.
Qualifications Needed:

Students who have worked towards and achieved the VTCT Level 2 VRQ in Sports & Fitness will be encouraged to progress onto the L3 qualification.
Students who can produce evidence of gym/exercise based experience and 4 GCSEs at grade C or above to
include English, double Science and 2 other academic subjects may after the interview process be deemed able to study this qualification.

Interview required: Yes.
Fee: £35 admin fee + If you are aged 19+ a fee may be payable - please check with Student Services.
Additional Costs: As below.
Materials Required: Course related book. Uniform of polo tops, jogging bottoms and white socks / trainers.

Qualifications Achieved: VTCT Level 3 VRQ in Advanced Fitness Instructing (Gym), Level 3 Diploma in Remedial Massage and Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology. This qualification is
appropriate for learners who are experienced to fitness instructing. It also provides access on the Register of Exercise Professional (REPs) at Level 3.
Examination/Assessment Ongoing practical assessments to assess underpinning knowledge. Assignment and project work.
