VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Complementary Therapies

Aims of the Course

This qualifi cation prepares learners for a range of careers within the complementary therapy industry. It also provides specialised skills that are directly relevant to communicating with the client and planning and delivering basic Complementary Therapy treatments.
It also allows progression onto the L3 Complementary Therapy Diploma and career opportunities at Level 2.


Course Content

This qualifi cation is appropriate for learners wishing to start a career in the Complementary Therapy industry. The course is made up of 8 core units and 3 specialist units.

You will be provided with the opportunity to gain knowledge of anatomy & physiology, consultation skills and the common effects and techniques of massage, aromatherapy and reflexology in order to provide basic treatments, and gain your competence.

This qualifi cation is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ) atLevel 2 on the Qualifi cations Credit Framework.

Core units:
• Introduction to Principles and Practice of Complementary
Therapies
• Introduction to Clinic Services and Business Awareness for Complementary Therapies
• Provide Basic Massage Therapy Techniques for Complementary Therapies
• Health, Safety and Hygiene for Complementary Therapies
• Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology for Complementary
Therapies
• Provide Basic Refl exology Techniques
• Provide Basic Aromatherapy Techniques
• Introduction to Healthy Eating and Well-being for the
Complementary Therapy Client Specialist units:
• Provide Face, Neck and Chest Massage within Complementary Therapies
• Provide Lower Leg and Foot, Forearm and Hand Massage within Complementary Therapies
• Provide Head and Scalp Massage within Complementary
Therapies

Essential Skills will be incorporated in the programme..


Jobs and Careers

This qualification is suitable for those employed in Beauty/
Complementary Therapy and health related sectors and other students wishing to access higher level Complementary Therapies.

Successful Completion

Students will be encouraged to progress onto Level 3 Diploma in Complementary Therapies, for a further year of study to gain further skills to ensure students are able to be employed within the Complementary Therapy work environment.

Course Length: One year full time.
Qualifications Needed:

16-18 years of age: 4 GCSE’s D or above in English, Double Science, plus 2 other academic subjects. Mature students very welcome.

Interview required: Yes.
Fee: £35 admin fee + If you are aged 19+ a fee may be payable - please check with Student Services.

Qualifications Achieved: VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Complementary Therapies.
Examination/Assessment Direct teaching, instruction and formative (ongoing) assessments, directed assignments or research, supported individual study. Independent assessment paper.
