Students have access
to modern performance and dance studios together
with professional sound and recording facilities
in the town centre campus. Our tutors have professional
experience in the performing arts industry and there
are strong links with professional practitioners.
Students take part in regular performances at the
college and outside venues.
The growing opportunities in Film are limitless
and our Higher National Diploma course in Film Production
provides an excellent progression route into this
challenging and fast-paced sector. The programme
is delivered in partnership with Worcester University
and students have access to the additional facilities
that a University Campus has to offer.
We are committed to working with professional practitioners
to enrich students’ artistic vision and enable
them to reach
their full potential. Recently professional actors
such as Richard Lee-Berke and Daniel Hawthorne have
been invited
to direct major college productions: this involvement
with industry professionals provides an excellent
introduction to the world of work.
Ex-Led Zeppelin star, Robert Plant, is patron to
the College’s independent record label MAS
Records. Robert joined forces with his fellow band
member, Kevyn Gammond, a music lecturer and course
leader at Kidderminster College, to help talented
students to progress in the music industry.
Students have provided the support slot for Plant’s
own gigs, and he donated a previously unreleased
song to feature on the first MAS compilation CD.
Most of the output of the MAS label is recorded
and produced in the custom designed and built recording
studio. This digital facility is the nerve centre
of the Music Technology courses.
For over 20 years we have produced students of the
highest calibre in this ever-expanding field who
go on to establish themselves within the business
as engineers, producers, artistes and performers
in their own right.
Supporting the performance programmes are our specialised
Technical Award courses. These are designed to give
students an excellent opportunity for training in
Lighting and Sound techniques, Stage Management
and Stage Design, and provide excellent stepping
stones into Higher Education and the performance
industry.
The Performing Arts Department at Kidderminster
College has an impressive record of placing students
either directly into
the business or at prestigious universities, drama,
dance or music schools.
Progression
Students can progress to challenging and
rewarding careers in the visual arts,
film making and broadcasting students
who wish to progress to a higher level
of study after their National Diploma
learners can join the unique HND Film
Making programme or equivalent
undergraduate BA courses. |
