| Kidderminster College helped the BBC to facilitate ‘BBC Blast’ – a National tour, enabling both students and local creative teenagers to let their imagination run wild in a series of free workshops, this last week.
BBC Blast chose Kidderminster to kick off their National tour this year on Thursday 23rd, and built an impressive mobile creative village, complete with digital workshop spaces and a separate performance area next to the college. During the three days, young people were able to produce their own work with advice and support from BBC staff and industry professionals.
College students participated in a number of workshops ranging from fashion design, special effects make-up and animation. Film Workshops took place in the college’s editing suite, the college theatre hosted a dance workshop, whilst National Diploma Music students and bands from MAS Records – the college’s independent record label, played at the Blast Talent Showcase, where the public were able to see some the finest of the town’s emerging talent on the Saturday afternoon.
Kidderminster College is one of the few colleges in Worcestershire to offer such an extensive range of Performing Arts courses, specializing in film, drama, dance, music technology, DJ, music and performance skills, in addition to technical skills such as music industry management, writing, production, costume design, make up and lighting.
Head of School, Anna Place, added, ‘We are delighted that the BBC not only chose Kidderminster to kick off this year’s ‘Blast’ tour, but also that it asked Kidderminster College to help facilitate some of the workshops as it presented us with an excellent opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic facilities and courses we actually offer here.’
