College embraces inclusive learning and seeks
to ensure that every student develops and meets
their potential for learning and achievement,
and is delighted to announce that it has become
an authorised provider of two innovative methods
of learning support - The Listening Programme
(TLP) and BrainBuilder.
Training for specialist staff was carried out
in July in readiness for a pilot roll-out with
students who have been identified with a need
for additional learning support this September.
TLP is a safe and effective method that gently
trains the auditory system to accurately process
sound for improved listening, learning, attention
and communication.
According to research, as much as 3-5% of the
population has auditory processing difficulties
and it is more common than hearing loss. When
auditory perception is distorted, whether through
illness, injury, developmental or other challenges,
auditory processing problems may lead to academic,
emotional and/or social difficulties, including
problems with, for example, attention, concentration,
speech, memory and communication.
BrainBuilder is a proven tool which can help,
when used on a regular basis, to build brain power
and strengthen core mental capacities, such as
memory and concentration.
Diana Willetts, Head of Learning Support, commented,
‘This is an exciting development for us
at the College. These specialist programmes are
very useful tools in helping to secure achievement.’
