Three students are celebrating having successfully passed their Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Health and Safety test.
The scheme ( CSCS) is designed to raise health and safety awareness, with the intention of reducing accidents in the construction industry. The test is done on-line, and comprises 40 multiple choice questions. Successful applicants can then apply for their CSCS cards which serve as evidence for Health and Safety competency. Although not yet an industry standard, access to site for employees, subcontractors etc maybe limited or denied to those who do not hold the card.
The students are currently doing a general construction skills course BTEC Introductory Diploma in Construction and include a Polish student who was able to complete the test using a translation service.
Student Dan Gittens is open to learning any trade within construction, whilst Steve Priest is looking for a carpentry apprenticeship and Adam Bednarczyk is hoping to train as a plasterer.
Kidderminster College Job Coach, Beth Newton, commented, “It is the first time the College has embarked on the scheme through its construction related courses and we’re delighted that the students are now on their way to securing their CSCS cards. Well done!”
