Information Technology Diploma

Aims of the Course

The IT Diploma examines how organisations work and the role that technology can play. As well as looking at technological solutions to business needs the Diploma also focuses on how to work with other people to achieve positive results.

The Diploma in IT looks at three main areas:
• Business: How organisations work and the role technology can play
• People: How to work well with other people
• Technology: How to create technology solutions

Plus a cross theme of multimedia, looking at how to design and develop a multimedia product for a particular audience.

There are three levels of Diploma:

• Foundation (Level 1)
• Higher (Level 2)
• Advanced (Level 3)

lf you’re doing a Higher or Advanced Diploma, you’ll look at the same themes but in more detail. Like planning and project management, the impact technology has on society, organisations and individuals with a global focus, plus how internet and mobile communications have transformed the business world The course covers the following broad themes and will allow you to:

• Explore how technology transforms society
• As well as organisations and individuals
• And how it affects the success of a business
• Create technology solutions
• Explore how to work with other people and in teams
• How communications are used in business
• Roles of IT professionals
• How they contribute to different industries

The course is made up of the following main components:

Principal Learning:
• Skills, knowledge and understanding central to Information Technology
• At least 50% is practical Generic Learning:
• Includes the assessment of Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT
• Develops a student’s employability skills in teamwork and self management
• Give the student the opportunity to produce an extended project
• Requires at least 10 days compulsory work experience

Additional and / or Specialist Learning:
• Edexcel Certificate in Information Technology
• All Practical based

Successful Completion

Students who successfully complete the Diploma will have opportunities to either continue to study additional qualifications within the IT sector or any other sector as they have direct GCSE and A Level equivalence and gives you the relevant, transferable skills th at will be welcomed by colleges, universities and employers.
