CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education

Aims of the Course

To provide a Level 3 vocationally specific qualification that allows a student to practice in almost every early years environment of children’s services in the United Kingdom and several countries abroad at a supervisory level and to provide entry into Higher Education training such as early years teaching, nursing or Foundation Degrees in related subjects.

Course Content

The course is divided into 12 units of study and in addition learners have to undertake 750 hours assessed work experience in a variety of early years settings 0–7 years
11 months.

The units of study are:
• An Introduction to Working with Children
• Development from Conception to Age 16 Years
• Supporting Children
• Keeping Children Safe
• The Principles Underpinning the Role of the Practitioner
• Promoting a Healthy Environment for Children
• Play and Learning in Children’s Education
• Caring for Children
• Development of Professional Skills Within Children’s Education
• Nutrition and Healthy Food for Children
• Developing Children’s (3–8 years) Communication, Language and Literacy Skills
• Working with Babies from Birth to 12 Months.


Jobs and Careers

Gaining the qualification could lead to employment within almost every early years environment.

Successful Completion

Successful completion could allow progression onto a range of CACHE Level 4 awards and related Higher Education programmes, for example, early years teaching, nursing and Foundation Degrees.

Programme Area: Care and Childcare.
Course Length: Two years full time.
Qualifications Needed:

One of the following: • CACHE Certificate in Early Years at Merit/Distinction (52 points) and above • GNVQ Intermediate at Merit/Distinction level in a relevant area • Four GCSEs grade A-C, one must be English * BTEC First Diploma in Children’ Care Learning
and Development at 72 points and above.

Interview required: Yes + reference and CRB clearance.
Fee: £35 admin fee + If you are aged 19+ a fee may be payable - please check with Student Services.
Additional Costs: Uniform for placement and course textbook.
